Big Endorsement in Tight Indy Mayor Race

As you heard from Amy in her post from the campaign trail in California, there’s nothing as exciting as the last few days of a campaign. As a campaign manager you’re keeping your eyes on so much – especially those critical endorsements that help folks make up their mind and get to the polls. So I’m so excited for EL candidate Melina Kennedy, who was endorsed by the Indy Star in her campaign for Indianapolis Mayor. It’s the kind of endorsement that makes campaign managers holler and give high fives all around, because it sings Melina’s praises, but also reminds people why this election matters so much for them:

“Success will mean more than paved streets and filled potholes; in competitive cities those are taken for granted. Success will mean building an educated and engaged workforce. It will mean leading not only Indianapolis but also challenging our state to create the kind of environment that will keep our residents home while attracting the best minds from other cities and states.

“For that agenda, we turn to Melina Kennedy. The lawyer, co-owner of a small business and former top-level city official has impressed us with her vision for Indianapolis.

“Her focus on early childhood development touches a need that numerous studies have identified. Nothing is more important than creating a solid future for young people, and Kennedy recognizes that.

“Kennedy would dedicate city money toward the early childhood cause but also has the capability to build collaborations with businesses, social service entities and others.”

During a time when local resources are scarce and so many are struggling to find work, it’s going to take big ideas to turn things around. Our cities need bold leaders who can think outside the box, and that’s exactly who Melina is. She’s a small business owner with strong, creative solutions that will help Indianapolis get back on track.

I’m behind Melina 100% -- not only will she be a great mayor for the city of Indianapolis, but she’s also a rising star with a bright future ahead of her. And she needs all of you, too.

We’re only 8 days out from election day, and this race will be close. You can learn more about Melina and how to get involved during this final stretch on her website.
