Every mother wants their child to grow up safe, and healthy, and happy – to live full lives and learn what it means to be an adult. To find love and inspiration – and maybe have children of their own someday.
When children have their promising lives cut short – because of senseless and preventable violence – there is no greater tragedy.

Women have made enormous strides in the past thirty years. We now comprise eighteen percent of Congress. This year, for the first time, we have the chance to elect women mayors of some of America’s largest cities. But we still don’t have enough women leaders pushing for issues that already dominate our national discourse – health care, equal pay – and we have yet to break through the final glass ceiling and put a woman at the top of the Democratic ticket and into the Presidency.

Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day began in 1993 simply as “Take Our Daughters To Work Day.” It was designed to help girls “connect what they were learning in the classroom to the world of work,” and introduce them to a world of options of which they weren’t necessarily aware. As you might have guessed, 2013 for EMILY’s List is shaping up to be the “Year of the Woman Mayor.” We’ve just officially endorsed two more amazing women— Mayor Stephanie Miner for reelection in Syracuse, New York and Gerrie Schipske for Mayor of Long Beach, California—coming to a grand total of seven mayoral candidates. From coast to coast, EMILY’s List is invested in changing the system from the ground up. We’re building our pipeline by electing women at all levels—and what fabulous women they are!

Today, on Earth Day, it is a perfect day to remember and recognize the many contributions EMILY’s List women have made to preserving the environment. Democratic women have consistently advocated for policies which keep America’s air and water cleaner, helping maintain quality for future generations.

It’s no secret that many House Republicans aren’t fans of protecting women’s rights. That’s why today we’ve put six of them On Notice. Reps. Joe Heck, John Kline, Tom Latham, Tom Reed, Scott Tipton, and David Valadao need to know that their attacks on women and families will not be tolerated.

Our amazing president Stephanie Schriock Tuesday gave the keynote speech of the "Gender Matters" Forum at American University College of Law. It's a phenomenal speech, and I wanted to make sure you had a chance to watch.
