Yesterday, the 113th Congress was sworn into office, including 16 new EMILY’s List women to the House and 9 EMILY’s List women to the Senate. With a record number of women entering both chambers and the incoming freshman class being the most diverse in history, there was a lot to celebrate. So we did!
It’s a first for EMILY’s List: we’re asking you to choose which of our candidates will be featured in a special fundraising appeal in October. Just a few days in, the amount of responses has been amazing, and there are already a few break-out stars. Here’s a sneak peek at the ongoing tally – this graphic represents your voting so far, and you still have time to weigh in!
UPDATE: We weren’t the only ones impressed: DelBene has captured the endorsement of The Seattle Times! Their editorial board recognized her “tremendous promise,” and noting the Reichert policy stances (or lack thereof) that would not benefit Washington state’s 8th district, said it’s time to give DelBene a chance.
The countdown until November 2 is constantly on my mind, but we have another important date quickly approaching: at midnight tonight, October 6, we will close the EMILY's List Community Choice contest. That means you have less than 24 hours to vote for your favorite EMILY's List candidate. The winning candidates will receive a special email appeal from EMILY's List on their behalf to help them fundraise in the critical final weeks.
Reading the news yesterday, we couldn't have been more excited to hear that the Seattle Times has endorsed our candidate, Suzan DelBene in Washington's eighth district.
Suzan is an accomplished businesswoman running a strong campaign to unseat three-term Republican Cong. Dave Reichert. If elected, her voice in Congress will add to our amazing team of women focused on creating jobs and revitalizing the economy.
